The Centre for Macular Research at UBC

The Centre for Macular Research is a multidisciplinary institute dedicated to basic and clinical research in the visual sciences.  Our mandate is to increase the knowledge of the visual system and its disorders, and to provide training for students, fellows and residents in the visual sciences.  We strive to discover new mechanisms underlying the biochemistry, cell biology and physiology of vision, and to develop innovative diagnostic procedures and effective therapies for disorders that cause blindness.

The faculty members comprise basic and clinical scientists with expertise in new and emergent technologies in genetics, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, physiology, neurosciences, bioinformatics and computational analysis. There are collaborative links with the department of Biochemistry (http://www.biochem.ubc.ca/) and the Brain Research Centre (http://www.brain.ubc.ca/) at UBC.
